DIY COSTUME ITEMS

Hey fellow cosplayers! Today I’m breaking down how to create the perfect Courtney costume from Total Drama Island. As a C.I.T. (Counselor In Training) and one of the show’s most ambitious contestants, Courtney has a distinct look that’s both recognizable and relatively simple to put together.
The Character
Courtney is the overachieving, type-A perfectionist from Total Drama Island who’s always ready to take charge. Her practical outfit reflects her no-nonsense personality while still maintaining that signature animated style we all love from the series.
What You’ll Need
Looking at the reference image, Courtney’s outfit consists of five main components:
- Short Brown Bob Wig with Bangs – Courtney has a distinctive short, straight brown bob with bangs that frame her face. If you already have similar hair, you could style it instead!
- Light Beige/Cream Button-Up Collared Shirt – She wears this as her top layer, with the sleeves rolled up to just below the elbow. Look for something simple with buttons down the front.
- Gray/Brown Crop Top – This goes underneath her button-up shirt and is visible at the neckline. A simple scoop-neck crop top in a grayish-brown shade works perfectly.
- Olive Green Capri Pants – Courtney wears olive green capri-length pants that end mid-calf. Any green pants that you can roll up will work in a pinch!
- Gray Wedge Sandals – To complete the look, she wears gray strappy wedge sandals. These give her a bit of height while still being practical.
Optional Accessories
While not shown clearly in this particular guide image, true fans might want to add:
- A clipboard (Courtney loves to organize!)
- A PDA device (very 2000s and very Courtney)
- A slightly annoyed expression (character accuracy is key!)
DIY Tips
- If you can’t find the exact color for the crop top, a light brown or taupe shirt works – just cut it to crop length.
- The button-up can be found at most thrift stores – look in both men’s and women’s sections.
- For the pants, olive green jeans or chinos can be rolled up to the right length.
Putting It All Together
Layer the crop top under the button-up shirt, leaving the top few buttons of the shirt open to show the crop top underneath. Pair with the green capris and wedge sandals, then add the wig if you’re using one.
Courtney’s pose is typically confident with arms crossed, so practice that stance for photos. Remember to stand tall and project that “I’m obviously the best choice for team leader” energy!
This costume works great for conventions, Halloween, or group cosplays with other Total Drama Island characters. It’s comfortable enough for all-day wear while still being instantly recognizable to fans of the show.
Have you cosplayed as Courtney or any other Total Drama character before? I’d love to see your takes on this classic animated reality show contestant!
