Building Gummigoo’s Layered Bandit Silhouette

The core of this costume is the contrast between the bright candy colors and the rough western wear. Start with a plain white t-shirt as your base layer, then put a vibrant yellow long-sleeve shirt over it. The white shirt should be visible at the collar and cuffs, so leave the yellow shirt unbuttoned at the top and roll the sleeves up to the forearm. This gives the relaxed, slightly disheveled look he has in the show without requiring any tailoring.

For the pants, go with a solid green in a straight or relaxed fit. Cargo pants work well because the side pockets add a practical, rugged element that fits the bandit aesthetic. Avoid anything with a shiny or athletic finish; a matte cotton or canvas fabric will sit closer to the flat colors of the animation. The green should be a medium tone—not olive, not neon—so it reads as crocodile skin rather than just a pair of green trousers.

The cowboy hat is the piece that sells the character. Choose a brown felt hat with a wide brim and a creased crown. The brim should be shaped with a slight upward curl on the sides, which gives it that outback adventurer quality rather than a polished rodeo look. If the hat arrives with a stiff brim, steam it gently and bend it by hand, holding the shape until it cools. A simple leather band around the crown is enough; you can darken it slightly with a bit of shoe polish to give it a worn, traveled appearance.

For the face, a half-face crocodile mask is the most practical option. A full mask can get hot and limits your peripheral vision, which becomes a problem in crowded convention halls. Look for a mask with a defined snout and visible nostril details, and make sure the eye holes are large enough that you can see clearly without turning your head. If the mask has an open jaw, wear a green balaclava underneath to cover your neck and chin, blending the mask into the rest of your head.

Brown leather work boots are the right footwear here. They should look like they have seen some miles—scuffed toes and a worn heel are fine. If you do not own a pair, any sturdy brown boot with a low heel will do; the important part is that they are comfortable enough to stand in for several hours.

One detail that makes a difference is the color matching between the shirt and the mask. The yellow shirt should be a saturated, slightly warm yellow, like a lemon candy, not a pale or mustard tone. The green pants and the green mask should also sit in the same color family. Hold them side by side when shopping; if they clash, the costume loses its cohesive gummy aesthetic.

There is no need for props to complete the look, but a small toy wrench tucked into a pocket or held in one hand adds a nice nod to his role in the show. Keep it lightweight and easy to set down when you need both hands free.
