Building the Baby Brent Look from the Ground Up
The entire costume hinges on one piece: an oversized diaper. You want something that reads as cartoonishly large rather than just a regular adult diaper. Look for a jumbo-sized costume diaper, often sold as a novelty item or made from padded fabric with wide elastic around the legs and waist. The exaggerated silhouette is the whole joke, so don’t downsize it for the sake of subtlety.
Brent spends most of his screen time shirtless, but that doesn’t mean you have to. A skin-tone bodysuit or fitted t-shirt underneath keeps you covered without breaking the illusion. Match the shade to your own skin as closely as you can. If you’re attending an outdoor fall event, this layer becomes less about modesty and more about basic survival—nobody wants to shiver through a convention in a diaper.
His footwear is specific but easy to source: classic blue and white slide sandals. The two-strap athletic style with the thick sole is what you’re after. These aren’t hard to find and they’re genuinely comfortable for a full day of walking. There’s no need to modify them.
The prop fish is what ties the outfit back to Swallow Falls. A large rubber fish, ideally one you can hold under your arm or carry like a prize, works perfectly. If you plan to pose with it frequently, adding a small wrist strap is a practical touch—it lets you set it down or gesture without dropping it. Otherwise, just find one that’s big enough to be visible in photos.
For hair, Brent’s look is short and slightly messy blonde. A basic short blonde wig works if your natural hair doesn’t match, but there’s no styling required beyond maybe ruffling it a bit. Keep the face clean-shaven. A touch of pink blush on the cheeks adds that youthful, cartoonish quality without needing any real makeup skill.
A small red wagon is an optional addition, but it’s worth considering if you want the full mascot experience. It’s functional—you can stash your bag, snacks, or the fish in it—and it instantly reads as something Brent would pull around town. It also gives you a place to rest props between photo ops.
The most important part of this costume isn’t the clothing. Brent carries himself with total confidence and oblivious enthusiasm. When you’re in the outfit, puff your chest out, smile wide, and greet people with a booming “Uh oh!” The costume works because the character takes himself completely seriously despite the absurdity. That energy is what makes the whole thing land.
