Queen Elinor from Brave DIY Costume Guide

Queen Elinor’s royal presentation in Brave is rooted in Scottish medieval tradition, defined by a structured emerald gown, antique gold metalwork, and an impossibly long pair of dark braids crowned with a delicate circlet. Unlike Merida’s loose, practical archery tunics, Elinor dresses to command a castle hall, meaning her outfit leans heavily on posture, clean lines, and fabric that holds its own weight.

Recreating the look comes down to nailing four distinct elements: the floor-length green dress, the dropped chain girdle, the crown, and the hair. Because the overall silhouette is uncluttered, getting the proportions right on each component matters far more than layering dozens of minor props.

The Emerald Court Gown

Elinor wears a deep forest green gown with a fitted bodice and a full skirt that sweeps the floor. Her sleeves are fitted along the arms with subtle gold detailing at the cuffs, while the neckline sits relatively wide across the collarbone with understated metallic edging.

The Women‘s Green Renaissance Dress provides an accurate color foundation and sweeping floor-length cut. To bring it closer to the animation, stitch a strip of narrow metallic gold ribbon around the neckline and along the cuff hems. Check that the bodice sits comfortably across the chest and shoulders so you can stand with Elinor’s rigid, upright posture without the fabric bunching awkwardly at the waist.

The Gold Chain Girdle

Rather than cinching tightly at the waist, Elinor wears a medieval-style girdle belt made of interlocking gold circular links. It rests loosely around the high hips and drops down the center of the skirt in a long decorative tail.

Fasten the Women’s O-Ring Gold Metal Link Chain Belt so the horizontal loop sits naturally across the hips with plenty of slack. The remaining length should hang straight down the front of the skirt. If the tail link tends to swing around while walking, stitch a tiny drapery weight or hide a small safety pin on the underside of the lowest ring to keep the chain centered against the fabric.

Braiding and Securing the Wig

Elinor’s hair is her most demanding visual piece. Her dark brunette hair is parted down the middle and styled into two massive plaits that drape forward over her shoulders, reaching past her hips and bound with gold ribbon wraps.

The Long Brunette Braided Pigtail Wig gives you the required density and length out of the box. Extremely long synthetic braids carry noticeable weight and tend to pull the wig hairline backward over several hours. Sew two small metal wig clips into the front underside of the cap to anchor it securely into your own pinned hair before putting it on.

To match the character’s segmented braid detailing, wrap thin gold satin ribbon or metallic cording down each plait in spirals, spacing the wraps roughly two to three inches apart. Secure the ribbon ends with small clear elastic bands tucked into the backside of the braids so they stay anchored through a full day of wear.

The Royal Circlet

A peaked Celtic-style crown rests directly on top of Elinor’s head, angled slightly forward over the center part of her hair.

The Queen Elinor Crown captures the curved Scottish arches and point detailing seen in the film. Because smooth synthetic wig fibers offer little grip, metal and resin circlets easily tilt or slide off when walking. Thread a pair of bobby pins crisscrossed through the internal loops directly into the wig’s structural wefts, or hot-glue small alligator hair clips inside the inner band to lock it directly to the fibers.

Finish the outfit with flat, comfortable dark slip-on shoes or low boots. The floor-length skirt completely conceals footwear, making comfort the only practical consideration for your feet.
