Building Pompompurin’s Cozy Yellow and Brown Silhouette
The entire costume depends on matching the exact warmth of Pompompurin’s yellow fur. A fuzzy pale yellow cardigan is the centerpiece, but the shade matters more than the fabric. Look for butter yellow or warm cream tones—anything with a hint of green or lemon will look off next to the brown accessories. A chunky knit or faux-fur cardigan gives the soft, fluffy texture his coat implies, while a flat knit cotton cardigan will feel thinner and less like the character.
Layer the cardigan over a white collared shirt with a structured collar. The collar needs to sit neatly beneath the cardigan’s neckline, so choose a shirt with a crisp, pressed collar rather than a soft, unstructured one. If you prefer a more casual route, a plain white t-shirt works under the open cardigan, but you lose the preppy contrast that makes the brown bowtie pop.
For the bottom half, brown overalls or a corduroy romper create a youthful, playful line that echoes his puppy proportions. If you go with overalls, make sure the straps sit snugly over the cardigan without gaping—adjust the buckles so the overalls sit at your natural waist. A pleated brown plaid skirt is the better option if you want more freedom of movement or a schoolgirl aesthetic, but keep the pleats pressed and the length around knee-level to match his rounded, soft proportions.
The brown beret is the single most recognizable part of the costume, so it deserves the most attention. Choose a wool beret in dark espresso brown and attach floppy golden retriever ears beneath the band. The ears should hang down along the sides of your face, not stick out stiffly. Sew or hot-glue the ears to a thin headband, then position the beret over the headband so the band covers the attachment point. Bobby pins through the beret’s inner band into your hair will keep everything anchored, especially if you plan to move through crowds.
Add a brown bowtie at the collar to tie the color scheme together. A pre-tied clip-on bowtie is easiest, but if you want it to sit correctly under the collar, a tie-on bowtie with an adjustable strap gives you more control over the height and angle.
White ruffle ankle socks and glossy brown Mary Jane shoes complete the lower half. The ruffles should be visible above the shoe line, so choose socks with a generous ruffle rather than a thin trim. The shoes themselves don’t need to be expensive—a simple rounded-toe brown shoe with a low heel or flat sole will work, as long as the finish is shiny rather than matte.
Carry an official Pompompurin plush backpack as your prop. It doubles as a functional bag for your essentials, so you don’t need to carry a separate purse. If you can’t find the official backpack, any small plush Pompompurin attached to a plain brown or yellow backpack works just as well.
For hair, natural hair styled in loose waves or twin pigtails works fine under the beret. If you wear a wig, choose a light blonde or golden caramel shade with soft waves—straight, sleek wigs look too polished and fight the cozy vibe. The wig should sit flat enough that the beret doesn’t slide forward over your eyes.
Keep all fabrics breathable—cotton knits, wool blends, and corduroy are ideal. The cardigan will trap heat, so avoid synthetic linings or heavy acrylic yarns that make you sweat. Steam the collared shirt and pleated skirt before the event to remove any creases, since the camera will pick up every wrinkle against the flat yellow and brown surfaces.
