Handsome Jack‘s design stands out on Pandora because it combines tailored corporate tailoring with rugged wasteland utility, all wrapped in Borderlands’ signature graphic-novel art style. Recreating him means balancing two different elements: the layered, slightly mismatched outfit and the surreal look of his surgically stapled artificial face.
The Upper Layers
Jack dresses in multiple contrasting layers up top. The base begins with a fitted yellow long-sleeve shirt worn beneath a lightweight, long white sweater or undershirt with an open front or deep collar. Over this sits a brown leather vest, which provides some structure and gives off an earthy, utilitarian contrast against the bright yellow peeking out beneath it.
The defining outerwear piece is his tailored blue coat. Unlike a traditional trench or military jacket, Jack’s coat features cropped sleeves that sit just below the elbow, revealing the lighter layers beneath his forearms. When altering a standard blue coat, shortening the sleeves and pressing the collar outward helps match the in-game silhouette closely without requiring a full garment build from scratch.
Trousers and Holster
Below the waist, Jack’s outfit is comparatively straightforward. A standard pair of slim or straight-cut black jeans forms the base. They should fit neatly around the legs so they don’t bunch excessively when paired with his holster and footwear.
A brown leather thigh holster secures around one leg, strapped both at the waist belt and around the mid-thigh. It carries his sidearm and adds an asymmetrical, functional element to an otherwise simple pair of trousers. For footwear, low-profile brown sneakers or flat work shoes keep the base grounded and functional for hours of walking.
The Face Mask and Cell Shading
The centerpiece of any Handsome Jack build is his face. Jack wears a prosthetic mask modeled after his own idealized face, literally clasped onto his skull with visible silver surgical staples along the perimeter and bridge of the nose. Pre-made resin or latex masks capture the precise facial structure and staple placements, resting over your face with an elastic or adhesive band.
If you are blending your own skin into the mask edges or skipping a full prosthetic, black cosmetic paint or liquid eyeliner is essential. Borderlands characters rely on bold ink outlines, hatched shading marks, and darkened jawlines to mimic in-engine cel shading. Tracing your facial contours, collarbones, and garment edges with a dark water-activated makeup creates the graphic, comic-book aesthetic that ties the entire costume together.
Hair and Finishing Accessories
A short brown wig styled back with subtle volume at the front frames the top perimeter of the mask. The hair should look deliberately swept and kept back from the forehead so the staple line across his brow remains completely visible.
On the wrist, a chunky wide-band digital watch finishes off the exposed forearm beneath the shortened coat sleeve. Once the heavy ink outlines are applied along the coat lapels and vest seams, the entire silhouette locks into place.
