Carl’s design is deceptively simple: an unpretentious henley, relaxed khakis, brown canvas sneakers, and a pair of oversized purple frames that carry almost the entire visual weight of the character. Because the base clothes look like standard everyday wear, getting the character across relies on specific proportions, the distinctive color contrast of the eyewear, and his disheveled reddish hair.
When building an O.W.C.A. intern costume, you do not need complex tailoring or armor fabrication, but you do need pieces that match his animated silhouette rather than modern streetwear. A slim-cut designer henley or tapered joggers will throw off his slightly slouchy, practical look.
The Purple Eyeglasses
The glasses are the anchor of this costume. Carl wears thick, squarish frames in a bold medium purple that sits prominently across his nose bridge. If the frames are too thin or a pale lavender, they get lost against your face and resemble ordinary prescription wear. A heavy plastic frame with squared-off edges immediately establishes who you are dressed as, even from across a convention floor.
If you do not wear prescription lenses, pop the clear demo lenses out before wearing them for an extended period. Clear plastic lenses reflect convention hall lighting, cause glare in photos, and smudge constantly throughout the day. Wearing lensless frames keeps your field of vision clear and eliminates reflections entirely.
Henley Shirt and Trousers
Carl wears a long-sleeve henley shirt in an off-white or light heather cream tone. It features a three-button placket at the chest, which he leaves partially unbuttoned in a relaxed, workaday fashion. A mid-weight cotton or cotton-blend shirt with a straight or slightly loose cut matches his everyday look. Ribbed cuffs at the wrists keep the sleeves sitting cleanly at your wrists without bunching up past your hands.
His pants are a deep, muted brown with a classic straight-leg cut. Standard work chinos or casual twill trousers match the matte animated texture much better than shiny synthetic fabrics or dark denim. Aim for a hem length that breaks softly over the top of your shoes rather than cropped ankles, keeping his slightly unpolished appearance intact.
Footwear
For footwear, Carl wears brown low-top canvas sneakers with white rubber soles and white toe caps. Classic Chuck Taylor styles or comparable canvas low-tops in chocolate or dark brown match the on-screen art closely. The contrasting white foxing tape and laces break up the dark brown of the trousers and ground the lower half of the outfit.
Hair and Accessories
Carl’s hair is an unruly, tufted reddish-brown that flares out around the sides and sits messy on top. If your natural hair is short, a light application of texturizing paste or matte clay gives you the necessary volume and casual separation. For cosplayers using a wig, start with a short auburn or warm brown base, tease the crown gently with a comb, and mist it with hairspray to lock in that slightly frazzled intern texture.
Carrying a prop adds immediate context and gives your hands something to do while walking a showroom floor. A plain wooden clipboard with lined paper or an older handheld camcorder fits his role running the O.W.C.A. communications desk and filming Major Monogram’s briefings.
