What You’ll Need
Recreating this gag costume comes down to two distinct parts: a worn-in everyday outfit and a shock-value prop that sells the premise. The clothing itself is simple and grounded, consisting of faded denim and a specific black graphic t-shirt reading “Trouble Finds Me.” Because the clothing looks like regular street attire, the visual joke hinges almost entirely on how you present the prop.
Putting the ensemble together requires very little fabrication, making it accessible on short notice. The real work goes into distressing the garments so they look genuinely weathered, alongside preparing the edible prop so it remains safe to handle throughout an event.
The Graphic Tee and Denim
The centerpiece of the clothing is the black “Trouble Finds Me” shirt. It features bold white lettering across the chest with a distressed, stencil-style font. A standard crew-neck cotton tee matches the casual, careless look seen in the original clip. If the fabric feels too crisp or dark straight out of the package, running it through several hot wash cycles or lightly sanding the high-friction areas around the collar and cuffs softens the material and cuts down the brand-new sheen.
For the bottom half, washed out jeans provide the right faded, broken-in base. A relaxed or straight-leg cut fits the unkempt aesthetic far better than slim or tailored denim. Light-wash or mid-wash denim with pre-existing fading along the thighs and knees establishes the worn look immediately. You can accentuate the wear by rubbing coarse sandpaper along the hems and pocket edges to create slight fraying.
Assembling the Gag Prop
The entire point of the costume is the gross-out reveal, which relies on a standard Ziploc bag paired with solid chocolate fudge. A quart-sized or gallon-sized clear slide-seal freezer bag gives clear visibility while keeping everything contained. Clear plastic allows onlookers to immediately see what is inside from several paces away.
Fudge works exceptionally well for this prank because of its dense, malleable texture and deep brown color. Standard chocolate fudge can be hand-formed into irregular shapes without melting immediately at room temperature. Break or mold portions into uneven, clumpy pieces before placing them into the plastic bag. Smearing a small amount along the interior walls of the bag creates the messy, unappetizing appearance needed to sell the illusion.
Food safety is the main logistical factor to manage during a party or convention. Keep the fudge stored in its original wrapper or a separate clean container until you are actually wearing the costume. Once inside the display bag, only handle the fudge with clean hands or keep individual bite-sized portions wrapped in wax paper within the bag if you plan on actually consuming it in front of people.
Aging the Outfit
A brand-new graphic shirt and clean sneakers can undermine an intentionally disheveled costume. If you want to push the distressed look further without destroying your clothes permanently, powdered fuller’s earth or brown makeup pigment brushed lightly across the knees, elbows, and collar adds a grimy texture that washes out later.
Tucking in the shirt haphazardly or leaving one side pulled loose reinforces the unkempt appearance. Keep footwear simple with beat-up canvas sneakers or scuffed work boots that look like they have seen heavy outdoor use.
