Aki Hayakawa’s Public Safety uniform looks deceptively simple at first glance because it is built around a standard black two-piece business suit. What sets the outfit apart from ordinary office attire comes down to three distinct elements: the back-mounted sword harness, athletic sneakers swapped in place of formal dress shoes, and his high topknot hairstyle.
Because the base garments resemble everyday menswear, silhouette and fit do most of the heavy lifting. A baggy, ill-fitting suit gives off an entirely different impression than the sharp, utilitarian cut seen in the series, so keeping the lines clean and tailored helps the character remain distinct.
The Public Safety Suit
A slim-cut Black Suit Jacket paired with matching Black Dress Pants forms the foundation of the uniform. Public Safety agents stay active on their feet, so garments with a small percentage of elastane or spandex blend allow comfortable movement during dynamic poses without straining shoulder seams. The jacket should fit neatly across the shoulders and taper slightly through the torso, while the pants should fall in a clean, straight line down the leg.
Beneath the jacket, wear a crisp White Button Down shirt with a structured collar that stays upright under the jacket lapels. A blend with cotton breathes better under layered convention lighting, while built-in collar stays keep the points sharp. Fasten the shirt up to the top button and pair it with a standard, matte Black Tie tied in a neat half-Windsor knot. Leave the tie hanging clean and straight without clips or pins, as Aki maintains an unadorned, functional look.
Mounting the Sword and Back Harness
Aki carries his weapon across his upper back rather than at his hip. A dedicated Sword Carry Belt straps diagonally across the chest, securing the scabbard snugly against your spine. Adjust the straps so the hilt clears your shoulder at a comfortable height; positioning the sheath too low causes the bottom tip to bump against your calves with every stride, while strapping it too high pulls the chest strap uncomfortably close to your throat. Test drawing the sword beforehand so you know whether you can clear the scabbard smoothly without having to unbuckle the harness.
Using a lightweight Prop Katana made of foam or bamboo keeps the rig balanced without dragging the jacket back throughout an event. If the diagonal harness strap slides against smooth polyester suit fabric, you can discreetly anchor it to the jacket shoulder with a safety pin or small strip of fabric hook-and-loop tape pinned inside the collar seam.
Wig Shaping and the Topknot
Aki’s hair is dark midnight blue or soft black, defined by straight face-framing fringe and a small, spiky topknot standing upright at the crown. An Aki-specific Wig often arrives with the topknot gathered, but trimming the front bangs to your eye level creates the correct profile. Use thinning shears in small vertical snips rather than blunt horizontal cuts to achieve feathered ends. Set the parted fringe with a light mist of matte hairspray so the bangs stay out of your eyes while moving, and secure the base of the topknot with a small clear elastic band if the gathered section feels loose.
Footwear
Instead of shiny leather oxfords, Devil Hunters wear Black Sneakers suited for running. Low-top canvas or skate shoes with dark soles blend smoothly with the trousers while honoring the character’s functional design. Check that your pant cuffs break lightly across the tongue of the shoe rather than dragging under the heel, maintaining a sharp hemline from head to toe. Dark crew socks keep any bare skin hidden if the trouser legs ride up when sitting or kneeling.
